  • Inside Career and Tools: A Real Look Into Life in Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is one of the most talked-about careers in tech today, yet for many people, it remains wrapped in mystery. Beyond the job titles and certifications, there’s a simple question most aspiring professionals want answered: what does a real day in cybersecurity actually look like?

That question is at the heart of Inside Career and Tools, a virtual session designed to strip away the buzzwords and replace them with honest, experience-driven conversations from people actively working and learning in the field.

Rather than presenting cybersecurity as a one-size-fits-all path, this session explores the diversity of roles within the industry and how different journeys can still lead to impact. From students building their foundations to analysts defending systems in real time, the event brings together voices that reflect the many entry points into cybersecurity.

Participants will hear from Daramola David Draemond, a cybersecurity student with hands-on exposure to API Development Security and Operations and certified under ISC2 CC, who represents the growing wave of learners deliberately positioning themselves for industry relevance. Alongside him is Blessing Isaiah, a Cybersecurity Analyst offering insight into professional practice, decision-making, and the realities of protecting systems beyond textbooks.

The conversation evolves with Kikile Rejoice, a SOC Analyst whose work revolves around monitoring, detecting, and responding to threats as they happen, and Azubuike Blossom, who brings a multidisciplinary angle by combining cybersecurity knowledge with web design expertise. Guiding the discussion is Fashipe Dare Ayo Marcelo, ensuring the session remains practical, engaging, and grounded in real experience.

What makes Inside Career and Tools stand out is its focus on authenticity. Attendees won’t just hear about job titles, they’ll learn how people entered the field, the skills that mattered most at different stages, the mistakes they learned from, and the tools that are actually used on the job. It’s a conversation about clarity, not hype, aimed at helping participants better understand where they fit and how to move forward.

The session will take place on January 31st, 2026, at 12 PM, and will be held virtually via Google Meet. Interested participants can join directly using this link:

  • Innovation at Miva: Students Turning Creativity Into a Problem -Solving Reality

Innovation at Miva University is not just a buzzword—it is increasingly becoming a lived experience, shaped by students who are identifying real problems and building meaningful solutions beyond the classroom.

Across different levels and disciplines, Miva students are showing that innovation thrives when curiosity meets purpose. From software engineering to public health and accounting, these students are translating knowledge into tools and ideas that respond to real needs within Nigeria’s educational and social system in general.

One such example is Jessica Austin Oghenemaro, a 400-level Software Engineering student, who created Provsy, an assignment and educational tool designed to simplify academic workflows and improve learning experiences. Provsy reflects a deep understanding of the challenges students face daily, offering a practical solution that supports both productivity and learning efficiency within the education system.

In the public health space, Tejere Francis Temitope, a 300-level Public Health student, is addressing a critical but often overlooked issue. Through Project Bloom, she is working to share sanitary pads across universities in Nigeria, promoting menstrual health, dignity, and access for female students. Her project highlights how innovation can be driven by empathy and a commitment to social impact.

Furthermore ,at the foundational level, Akagboju Evan Uju, a 100-level Accounting student, is already exploring the future of finance and compliance. She developed the idea of an AI-powered accounting and tax solution, aimed at simplifying financial processes and improving accuracy. Though still in development, the project reflects early initiative and a forward-thinking approach to technology in accounting.

Together, these stories underscore what innovation at Miva truly represents: students who are not waiting until graduation to make an impact. They are learning, building, experimenting, and contributing, each at their own pace, but with a shared drive to solve problems and create value and rewriting the trends that have been set by their predecessors. As Miva continues to grow as an open and forward-looking institution, these student-led initiatives stand as proof that innovation is already taking root; quietly, steadily, and meaningfully.

  • Miva Students Share Post-Exam Reactions: A Journey from Anxiety to Joy”

As Miva Open University concludes its end-of-semester examinations, a shared sense of relief now fills the student community. After weeks of preparation, late-night revisions, and moments of anxiety, students have finally stepped out of the exam phase and into a period of reflection marked by mixed feelings, but ultimately, joy.

For many students, the examinations were mentally demanding. Questions required not just memorisation, but deep understanding and critical thinking, leaving some candidates unsure of their performance. In post-exam conversations, students openly expressed confusion over certain questions, laughed about unexpected twists in the papers, and admitted to moments of doubt while writing. These reactions highlighted the academic intensity of the examinations and the pressure students faced to perform well.

At the same time, humour and camaraderie became defining features of the post-exam atmosphere. Students teased one another, shared inside jokes about tough questions, and used laughter to process the stress of the experience. This collective humour reflected more than light-heartedness, it showed resilience and a strong sense of community among Miva students.

Spiritual reflection also played a role in how students responded to the end of the exams. Several students spoke about “handing over” the outcome to God, expressing faith that their efforts would yield positive results. For them, faith served as reassurance after giving their best under challenging conditions.

Despite the varied reactions; uncertainty, exhaustion, frustration, and laughter, the dominant emotion was relief. The completion of the examinations marked a significant milestone, especially for students navigating the demands of university life alongside broader economic and social pressures.

  • Master’s Programmes at Miva Open University: Will You Choose Open Learning or the Traditional Route ?

As postgraduate education becomes increasingly essential for career growth, many Nigerian graduates are faced with a crucial decision: pursue a master’s degree through an open university like Miva Open University or follow the conventional path offered by traditional institutions. Each option comes with its structure, expectations, and pressures, but Miva’s model represents a significant shift in how postgraduate education is delivered and experienced.

Miva Open University’s master’s programmes are designed around flexibility and technology-driven learning. Unlike traditional universities that rely heavily on physical lectures, rigid timetables, and campus-based assessments, Miva operates a largely online academic system. Coursework, lectures, and assessments are accessed digitally, allowing students to learn at their own pace while still meeting structured academic deadlines. This approach is particularly appealing to working professionals, entrepreneurs, and individuals balancing education with other responsibilities.

In contrast, traditional universities often demand physical presence, fixed lecture schedules, and extended academic calendars influenced by strikes, logistical challenges, or administrative delays. While this environment can provide strong peer interaction and face-to-face mentorship, it also places limits on how students manage their time. Miva’s model shifts responsibility more directly to the student, making self-discipline and planning central to success.

In terms of duration, Miva Open University’s master’s programmes are structured to be completed within a minimum of 18 months and a maximum of 24 months, depending on the programme and the student’s pace of completion. This clear and predictable timeline is a major contrast to traditional universities, where postgraduate programmes can extend well beyond the expected period due to academic disruptions or administrative delays. At Miva, the absence of frequent interruptions allows students to plan their careers and personal lives around a more reliable academic calendar.

Succeeding in a master’s programme at Miva requires intentional time and pressure management. Because lectures are not tied to a physical classroom, students must actively create study routines and stay ahead of deadlines. The academic pace can feel intense, especially for those accustomed to spoon-fed learning, but students who plan weekly study goals, engage consistently with course materials, and treat assessments as ongoing academic tasks tend to perform better.

Pressure management is equally important at the postgraduate level, where coursework becomes more analytical and research-focused. Miva’s system rewards independence, consistency, and adaptability, assessing students across multiple academic activities rather than relying solely on final examinations. This encourages steady engagement and reduces last-minute academic stress.

Ultimately, choosing between Miva Open University and a traditional university for a master’s degree depends on learning style, lifestyle, and personal discipline. Miva offers flexibility, structure, and a clearly defined completion timeline, while traditional universities provide physical interaction and conventional academic culture. For students seeking efficiency, uninterrupted progress, and balance alongside professional commitments, Miva’s master’s programmes present a strong alternative for postgraduate study.
